Doberman Pinscher
The powerful, elegant and muscular Doberman Pinscher was bred to be a guard dog. They are people oriented and devoted and loyal to their family. They are assertive and naturally protective, but not vicious. They need mental stimulation and are happiest when working at a given task.
Major Health Concerns: The Doberman Pinscher is prone to Von Willebrand Disease, a blood disorder. They may have cervical spondylitis (wobbler’s syndrome) due to fusion of neck vertebrae and compression of the spinal cord. The are also prone to bloat and hypothyroidism.
Interesting Fact: A Doberman named Kurt saved 250 U.S. Marines on Guam in 1944 when he alerted the troops to Japanese soldiers.
